Fazenda Bom Jardim sits in Patrocínio, in Brazil's Cerrado Mineiro region, run by Gabriel Nunes and his family at Nunes Coffee. Third generation growers, they've spent the last few decades shifting from bulk commercial coffee into serious specialty production, and it's paid off. Their coffee has taken out Cup of Excellence and set world record prices at auction. This isn't a farm chasing hype, it's one that's already proven it belongs at the top.

Gabriel grows Geisha alongside native trees on the farm, part of a wider commitment to biodiversity and experimentation with different varietals and processing methods. This lot is anaerobic natural, sealed and fermented before drying to build a cleaner, more complex cup than a standard natural. In the cup: raspberry, hazelnut and lime.

What's the deal with Gesha? Why does everyone go on about it?

Gesha is a coffee variety originally from Ethiopia that ended up in Panama and completely reset expectations for what coffee could taste like. It's naturally low yield and fussy to grow, which usually means a premium price tag. This one's grown in Brazil rather than the usual Central American spots, on a farm with the track record to back it up.

What does anaerobic natural actually mean?

The cherries are sealed in a controlled environment to ferment before drying in the sun, rather than fermenting in open air. That extra control builds more complexity and clarity in the cup than a standard natural process, which is exactly why you're getting raspberry and lime alongside the hazelnut instead of just heavy fruit.

Is this coffee espresso or filter?

Filter, this one's roasted for it. The raspberry and lime need a gentler, longer extraction to really open up, and filter brewing lets that brightness shine instead of getting buried. V60, Kalita, Aeropress or batch brew will all show this coffee at its best.
